Kimberley Diamond Cup partnered back up with Ultimate X to bring the KDC Grand Slam Regional Qualifiers to the biggest action sports festival in Africa for the second year in a row and brought out tons of skateboarding enthusiasts from all over the area to watch SA’s top skaters duke it out for their share of the R50,000 prize purse. With all that cash on the line, the skating was top notch, as it never fails to be.
On the schedule was the Rider Cup Teams Contest in which teams of 4 skaters teamed up to rip their hardest for a shot at R10K in cash and a slot in the Rider Cup Team Skateboarding Championships at Kimberley Diamond Cup. In the end, the 2015 Rider Cup Champions, Team AKAM, consisting of Alan Marola, Moses Adams, Khule Ngubane, and Allan Adams, took the top spot and a slot in the finals in October at Kimberley Diamond Cup.
Following the Rider Cup division was the Open Division Finals, in which 30 skaters went for it in hopes of making the top 8 for the finals later in the evening and if they’re lucky, making it into the top 5 who would advance to the South African Skateboarding Championships at Kimberley Diamond Cup this October. In the end, Yann Horowitz, Moses Adams, Alan Marola, Dlamini Dlamini, Kalvyn Mac Millan, Allan Adams, and Khule Ngubane made it through and gave the Grandwest Arena a hell of a show in the finals. The Adams brothers, Moses and Allan, even went at it head to head in the semifinals, it was insane! Moses ended up taking out his baby bro and went up against Durbanite Dlamini Dlamini for the R20K grand prize. In the end, it was Dlamini’s switch game and deep bag of tricks that put Dlamini through to numero uno after an incredible head to head match against Mosey.
